# Storage

> How much space a browser has and how to add more.

A new browser has a 10 GB encrypted data volume for your profile and downloads, plus a system disk for the operating system and Chrome. Both are included in the storage charge.

## Adding storage

Open the browser’s Storage tab, choose a new size and review the monthly cost before confirming. The volume grows while the browser runs or sleeps, with no restart.

- Storage can only grow, never shrink, up to 100 GB.
- Our cloud provider allows at most four changes in a rolling 24 hours, and only after the previous change has finished.
- Adding storage also raises the amount held from your balance for seven days of retention (see Billing).
- Space used is reported while the browser runs. Right after growing, the extra space can take a short while to appear.

## How storage is charged

Storage is priced per GB-month and charged for the actual time it exists, prorated by the seconds in each calendar month. Monthly amounts in the app are projections at the current size; nothing is charged for a whole month upfront.
